Lee Roy Selmon's story combines football scholarships for his family as well as service to the community. First, his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children in a Eufala farm. In second football, he was the third brother who were players for Oklahoma. Three brothers all made All-Americans. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the first-teamers for the entire year. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the top lineman from the USA. In his three years as a starter Oklahoma went 32- 1-1 and won two national championships. As an National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was given the opportunity to receive a scholarship in his third year in the year 1975. Selmon has a bachelor's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer times a week in the college. After graduation, Lee Roy settled in Tampa where he spent nine years playing with Tampa's Buccaneers. Three times, he was selected All-Pro. Then he began his business career. By 1988, he became an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank. He also worked with the following organisations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as being among 10 of the most notable young men. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in height and weighed 256 pounds when he was a student athlete. He was captain of the team in 1975. In 1993, he became the assistant director of the University of South Florida. In 1988, he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In addition, he was inducted into an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. The award was presented by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
